CHENNAI HASH (CH3)

Was founded on 17 th September 2000 by Sashi "Lord Krishna "Varma ,Zac "Zzz" Samuel,Peter "Footloose" Briggs,Claus "Danish Pastry" Lyngaa,Markus "G-String" Kabisch and Patrick "Big Boy" Davenpot.

675 hashers already have run on 123 runs with CH3 . Chennai Hash House Harriers have entire Families hashing together on alternate Sundays at 16.00 hrs. 35 - 50 regular hashers turn up for the run. Chennai Hash has good balance of about 50% ex-pats & 50% Indian nationals.

There are plenty of Harriets (women) and Horrors (children) - "To endorse this very family oriented Hash"

We like to go for a long walk / run in the city or the countryside and then come back and enjoy some serious beer. For the runners it is usually a 8km trail , while the walkers do 5km. The pack is lead by the hare, who lays the trail. " Very often the hare will try and confuse the pack." What the pack is therefore required to do is to find the trail and get back to " finish at the starting point". False trails are laid to mislead the front-runners, forcing them to retrace their paths, thus enabling the others to catch up. It is not a race; it's more of a mind game.

The Run is set by the 'Hares' who mark a trail with shredded paper, flower petals, chalk as they go along and can contain many 'falsies' or false trails too. Countryside is no limitation, the hare can go anywhere, on hills, by the beach, across mountains, city roads, wherever he / she feels like! The Harriers then set off to find the trail and complete it back to the circle.

At the Circle the Master of Ceremonies or the R.A-Religious Advisor takes over, introducing "virgins", settling "charges" if any, baptizing third timers, announcing the hares and the location for the next run etc!

All this around a block of ice - in Chennai generally - on which is seated the host/hare/virgin/thirdtimer to the singing of the Hash Song

After your third 'run' you are baptised - i.e you get a hash name which remains with you for life, Worldwide!

In fact for people who are expats, or live for any reasonable length of time outside their home locations it becomes the first social circle that you can form. Professionally Hashers come from all walks of life with a varied range of experiences, but they all have a love for the Run and the Beer in common.
Hash runs are as much about fitness as quaffing beer.

This is a pure PAY & USE Hash. There are no registration charges or any other fees for the run (Just pay for your own beer and food - free T-shirts on occasion too!).
